Abstract

The purpose of this research project is to study the process of urban expansion in the southern sector of Bauru, a midsize city in the state of São Paulo. It seeks to analyse the processes of formation, production and location of high-income population neighborhoods which characterize the occupation of this sector. The territory for the research is defined by the neighborhoods Jardim Estoril I, II, III, IV and V which totalize 1.070.000m owned by a single family. The period is defined by the approval of Jardim Estoril I, in 1957, and the settlement of Jardim Estoril V, in 2006. Through the analysis of private agents -developpers and owners- and public agents - through plans and planning legislation - involved in the production of the five neighborhoods , this project intends to contribute to the understanding of the process of urban expansion, particularly, of the areas of concentration of high-income population in the municipality of Bauru.
