Abstract

The aim of this proposal is to study criminal cases on luring and child pornography in the province of Ontario, Canada (from 2002 to the present). The court cases will be used as empirical access to understand: 1) the relation between the crimes of child pornography, luring and other sexual crimes (online and offline); 2) the process of luring and the relation between online and offline crimes (including the role played by the victim in the process). The research will comprehend two fases: 1) research documents in order to better understand the law and the recent changes approved by the Parliament (Parliament of Canada, located in the city of Ottawa); 2) research of the court cases. This will be done using the LexisNexis Academic Database, available to the academic community of Ottawa University. This database will allow a quantitative analysis (regarding victim´s age, relation to the accused, relation between the possible different crimes committed, and signs of pedophilia) and a qualitative analysis (regarding the description of the crimes committed, the modus operandi of the accused and the role played by the victim). After this period at the Department of Criminology at Ottawa University, and taking into consideration the legal differences, a similar research will be conducted in Brazil. In order to do so, the researcher has the collaboration of Fórum Brasileiro de Segurança Pública, who should facilitate access to the criminal cases and study them together. Therefore, the proposed research can be understood as a comparative one, allowing for a deeper understanding of this social problem. (AU)
