Abstract

The pragmatic theory studies the functioning of language in communication situations. It refers to the rules that explain or regulate the intentional use of language. The pragmatic assessment of communication skills is one of the diagnostic of language procedures, developed in Brazil, since the publication of ABFW - Child Language Test in the areas of phonology, vocabulary, fluency and pragmatics. There are few studies about typical language development using the pragmatic, and these aim to the description of communication skills of children in development of language, this justifies the necessity of international validation test for the Brazilian population. The Test of Pragmatic Skills (Shulman, 1986) is a traditional test that has been used in many studies because it is easy to apply. The test consists of four sets of simple activities with common material, applicable in a short period of time (about 15 minutes) and has normal parameters for Greek and American children and is being implemented in some countries of the east. The possibility of extending the resources to diagnostic of language with the use of instruments that can be shared internationally represents a significant contribution to science and relevant to clinical practice (Shulman, 1986). Thus, the purpose of this study is to apply the translated version of the TOPS-R, authorized by the author.
