Curcumin, which is a phenolic compound extracted from the rhizome of the plant Curcuma longa show schistosomicidal activity both in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, further studies with other organisms have shown that curcumin is a potent apoptotic agent. However, there are several limitations, which may restrict their use of curcumin, as a potential substance for treatment of several diseases, among these limitations is the low absorption following oral or intramuscular application. Several studies have reported that some of curcumin analogues or derivatives exhibit improved solubility, stability and potential of bioavailability is being analogous EF24 (3,5 - bis (2- flurobenzilideno) piperidin-4 -one that has a cytotoxic potential in vitro between 10 -20 times more when compared with curcumin. Accordingly, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the analogue EF 24 adult worms of S. mansoni in vitro. For this purpose, will be assessed the effect of the substance on the pairing, oviposition and viability of parasites. Through microscopic, molecular and biochemical techniques will be analyzed the morphology and structures of the parasite, DNA fragmentation and determine the activity of caspase 3 in adult worms of S. mansoni after incubation with EF24.
