Abstract

This project presents the justification of the need for an internship overseas research that enables the expansion of sources and interpretations developed by research of Master titled A general politics: Luis Alves de Lima e Silva and consolidation of the imperial state (1846 - 1862), supported by FAPESP since February 2013. Although not expected in the original proposal stage, the new prospects opened from the partial results of the study lead to a deeper analysis of the Brazilian intervention in the conflicts of the River Plate region, occurred between 1851 and 1852, both in the overall scope, as the specificity of the political and military Luis Alves de Lima e Silva acting, then he was president of the province of Rio Grande do Sul and general-in-chief of the forces in the southern Brazilian operations. These new demands are the result of contact with primary sources consulted in the archives of Rio de Janeiro, in the month research trip in July 2013. (AU)
