Abstract

From the changes in the European context, begun with the invasion of the Kingdom by the French troops and the consequent move of the Portuguese Court to Brazil, the relation between Portugal and yours colonies, which in the last decades of the eighteenth century has been placed on a new level, under a new recofinguration. After the 1820's Revolution and the independence of Brazil, the economic and political structures of Portugal went through a process of "liberalization" to face the challenges and demands of the new situation. The thesis aims to analyze the forms of economic recovery sought by Portugal during the nineteenth century, which the main was the project of effective colonization of African domains, based on the model of the new standard of colonization, begun in Brazil , and the new political forms that had come as a result of the economic liberalism. In this sense, we can define five periods of march to the Portuguese monarchy toward your colonies : i ) opening of the Ports ( 1808 ) until the end of the European conflict and elevation of Brazil to the United Kingdom ( 1815 ), ii ) from Brazilian United Kingdon until Porto's Revolutions (1820 ), iii ) from Porto's Revolutions until formal recognition of the independence of Brazil (1826) , iv) from recognition of the independence of Brazil (1826) to the end of the slave trade (1850 ) and v) the abolition of Brazilian slave trade (1850) to English ultimatum (1890).
