Abstract This study, based on the Edith Stein's phenomenology, aims to understand the main living experiences of people that live in a community context marked by violence and to investigate its impacts on their formation process. The research will be conducted in the neighborhood of Uruguai, in the district of Alagados, Salvador (BA). The capture of the living experiences will be made from the logbook, interviews with locals and analysis of reports written by foreign missionaries during the time they lived in the neighborhood. Both the collection and the analysis of the material collected will be held in accordance with the phenomenological method. We will seek to grasp the description of the lived experience of respondents placing in brackets judgments, theories and prior knowledge (phenomenological suspension). Then we will carry out the analysis of the reports using the procedure of phenomenological reduction, ie seeking the essential traits, the sense of the living experiences studied for each subject individually. Finally, we will discuss the unveiled senses articulating the individual analyzes in order to obtain an integrated view of results and will seek to deepen their understanding in light of the phenomenology of Edith Stein.
