Abstract The main goal of this research is to analize the ideas present in two different Servils papers that were published between 1811 and 1815, in order to understand how the Hispanic Empire fragmentation was shown by these periodicals. The period here analysed comprehend the constitutional phase that is known as "The First Hispanic Liberalism" (1808-1814), crucial moment in Spain history. In the beginning of the spanish XIX century, at the same time that a new Spain was in a process of reconfiguration , with modern characteristics - through, among other events, of the constitutional debate that takes place at the Cádiz Cortes (1810-1814) - , the Hispanic Empire was being untied by the wars of independence in America. Bearing this in mind, the proposition of the research is to analyze how this fragmentation was presented on the pages of the periodicals called "Servis" by the coevals. The category "servil" emerged, from the public discussions in the press, to label the opponents of the spanish liberals. Servilles and liberals defended, in most of the cases, distinct positions both at the Constitutional Assembly and in the press. The anti-liberal group was related to the spanish traditionalism and opposed to the transformations suggested by the liberals. Thus, two periodicals will be analyzed as "servilles" journals: "El Censor General" and "El Procurador General de la Nacion y del Rey", aiming to systematize the shades existed in the Servilles from the American condition point of view. It is also quite rare the studies which seek to understand the Servilles during the first spanish liberalism. | |
