Abstract

The Neotropical region is known by its high diversity of freshwater fish, with approximately 6,025 species. From this total, 31% are distributed in Brazilian rivers reflecting the great diversity of the available aquatic ecosystems. The floodplain system contributes for this megadiversity due to its environmental complexity. The National Park "Foz do Rio Aguapeí" (RPPN - Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Nacional) is one of this aquatic ecosystems composed of an ichthyofauna with more than 310 species. Among these species, it is highlighted two autochthonous species Auchenipterus osteomystax (Siluriformes: Auchenipteridae) and Parauchenipterus galeatus (Siluriformes: Auchenipteridae) that show biological and ecological similarities. This project aims to survey the parasitic fauna of theses hosts verifying the influence of the flood pulse imposed by the environment upon the structure and composition of these parasites. Afterwards, the findings will be compared with previous studies carried out for the same hosts from the Upper Paraná River floodplain. Thus, the results will contribute for understanding the spatial and temporal patterns of the dynamic of the host-parasite relation in Neotropical fish and the mitigating measures for the "RPPN Foz do Rio Aguapeí" through the close link of the parasites of the two autochthonous fish species.
