The project deals with the study of CH1, CH2 and CH6 charnockites from the Jequié complex and partially migmatized gneisses and pink granitoids from the Campo Belo complex. These gneisses and granitoids will be studied using XRF, ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS and SHRIMP, with the main objective of gaining new insights into the understanding of crustal growth and crustal recycling during the Archean in the São Francisco Craton and to determine the sources of granitoids and gneisses with emphases in detecting supracrustal components. Textural analysis along with U-Pb dating using SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS will allow to establish the crystallization age and to detect inherited ages from older events. Furthermore, the possible existence of inherited zircons in Archean juvenile terrains could provide significant improvements in the understanding of continental growth and the onset of plate tectonics.Oxygen and Hf isotopes in zircon along with whole-rock Nd isotope will permit to unravel the nature of magma sources of Archean gneisses and granitoids and to evaluate when the hydrologic cycle arose on the Earth surface.
