Abstract

Medium-sized cities have experienced a process of multiplication of its core areas, due to the conjunction of local capital and those who work in regional, national and international scales. Usually, such centers mark targets in terms of spatial practices and the local consumer market, expressing and reinforcing social cleavages and leveraging new. In terms of evening entertainment, such processes can also be identified, although, in most cases, these centers do not coincide with the commercial and service centers. However, one must consider that the nightly entertainment centers in cities like São José do Rio Preto are not nearly as dynamic nor as diverse as those identified in cities of metropolitan size, so that in this city, the possibilities for interaction between different social classes is more present, which is not without tensions. Study the process of formation of these centralities of evening entertainment, its current dynamics, the profile of its visitors as well as their spatial practices and tensions present in these spaces in the city of São José do Rio Preto, is the purpose of this project.
