In recent years, with the expansion of global Aquaculture, several viruses were identified as responsible for epidemics of great ecological and economic impact on fish of importance in Aquaculture around the world. However, epidemiological data available for many viral diseases are minimal or nonexistent. Given the above, the main objective of this project is to investigate the presence of infections caused by viruses in fish in the state of São Paulo. For this purpose, specimens will be collected in municipalities in the watershed of the rivers Pardo and Mogi-Guaçu, both commercial flocks and free-living populations. The collected specimens will be characterized according to the species and clinical aspects, and submitted to molecular laboratory diagnosis for Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 infections. Later, the molecular characterization of the detected genomic sequences will be performed through nucleotide sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. It is believed that the results obtained in this study may contribute to a better understanding of the etiology and epidemiology of viral diseases in fish. In addition, the gained information can provide data necessary for the development and establishment of potential strategies to control diseases caused by viruses of the family Alloherpesviridae.
