Abstract

The research intends: to study the relations between Brazilian communist and non-communist intellectuals and artists, investigating the cultural Cold War from the American point of view (as opposed to the internationalization promoted by the Soviets and the French Communists); to discover the importance for authors like Erico Veríssimo of the cultural network created with American support; in contrast, to search the impact and dissemination in the United States of the work of intellectuals and artists clearly aligned with the Soviets during the Cold War, such as Jorge Amado, and the possible boycott of these authors. I shall offer two courses about politics and culture during the military dictatorship in Brazil after 1964. (AU)
