Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the nutritional requirements of macro minerals (Ca, P, Mg, Na and K) for gain in Saanen goats of different genders, weighting from 15 to 30 kg BW. The experiment will be carried out at UNESP Laboratory Study in Goats (Jaboticabal, SP, Brazil). Fifty eight Saanen goat kids (20 intact males, 20 castrated males and 18 females), with 15 kg of initial body weight, will be used to determine growth requirements, using the comparative slaughter technique. Kids of different genders will be randomly assigned to three slaughter weights (15, 22.5 and 30 kg) in a completely randomized factorial 3 x 3 (slaughter weight x sex categories) design. The goats will be fed ad libitum since the beginning of the experiment until they reach slaughter weight. After slaughter, the empty whole body will be ground and homogenized, after which samples of approximately 500 g will be collected, frozen in Petri dishes and freeze dried. The freeze dried samples will be ground in a ball mill, and followed to nitropercloric digestion. Ca and Mg will be determined through atomic absorption spectrophotometry. For Na and K will be determined through flame emission spectrophotometry and P, through colorimetric spectrophotometry. (AU)
