Abstract

The objective of this master's project is to study the changes in the subject-verb order that occurred in interrogative sentences of Brazilian and European Portuguese. The progress of this research will be based on 16 syntactically annotated texts of Portuguese authors, available in the Tycho Brahe Corpus, and other texts of Brazilian authors who will soon be available in the corpus. This study intends to compare the syntactic structure of interrogative sentences in the two main forms of Portuguese and observe why a greater change happened in the subject-verb order of Brazilian Portuguese than in the European Portuguese. This research will use two previous studies about the subject-verb order in interrogative sentences of Brazilian Portuguese (DUARTE, 1992; LOPES-ROSSI, 1993). (AU)
