Abstract

This project has as the objective to observe the pratices developed by Faculdade de Ciências e Letras de Assis Clube de Cinema, in the decades of 1960 to 1980. To understand its position inside the cineclub movement developed in Brazil, aims also to analyze the historical definition of cineclub, by the use of Cultural History and Oral History. By cineclub, we understand the entity born in the beginning of the XX century, in the middle of the fight for the defense of cinema as a art form against the recently born film industry, that from 1940 started to occupy the political debates of society. Having cinema discussion as its main activity, it contributed to the constitution of critical subjects for that time's society, and helped the creation of cinematographic critic, while also transforming itself into cultural spaces and cinema archives. In Brazil, has its origin connected to the intellectuality, passing through the catolic church's activities and the political debate amidst the military dictatorship. In the city of Assis, it was born from the connection between teachers, employees and students in the 1960's having its activities coming to a halt in 1983, and during its existence maintained an intense dialogue between the college and the Assis's community. It passed through the cinematographic debate, but was defined as a cineclub model that utilized cinema as a social vehicle. It is an entity that transformed and reinvented itself according to the economical, political and social changes of its period, changes that brought direct consequences to the cultural field, and that we aim to analize by the Clube de Cinema point of view.
