Abstract

The research project starts stating the originality of urbanization in Brazil in the international context. Two hypotheses are presented and are complementary: the history and ways of the Brazilian population and a certain population dispersion by extension of agglomerations and by increasing the number of cores that are notably effect of a continuous achievement of a territory with continental dimensions, the only country in Latin America in this range. The originality of the project is to propose a comprehensive, qualitative and quantitative analysis on the whole Brazil because the current researches are fragmented by themes, regions and not always offer overviews of the country. The project entails the establishment of a basis for statistical, geographic, and historical data on population and evolution of cities in Brazil, with emphasis on the period 1970-2010, which integrate an international basis, supported by the program and started in-Geopolis 1980s. The investigation, in the course of two years, calls for the creation and dissemination of a database on contemporary population of Brazil, which will be available from a site. Data will be recovered from cartographic analysis and statistics that will be the subject of multiple publications. Particular attention will be given to the analysis of urban morphologies valued in our assumptions, so as to understand the processes of formation of urban agglomerations in the country.
