Abstract

Periodic defoliation is important for the management of Black Sigatoka to eliminate necrotic leaves and reduction of inoculum source, however, to some extent cultural practice without compromising fruit production. However, no study has been done in the Ribeira Valley, SP, not yet addressed its effect on the variation in size and weight of fruits in the bunch. Thus, the objective of this study is to determine the effect of defoliation on yield and quality of fruits of banana variety 'Prata' and 'Nanica'. To this end, in April and December 2014 defoliation on plants in bloom will be held, keeping 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 leaves on plants of the variety 'Grande Naine' and 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 leaves in plants of the variety 'Prata'. The experimental design is a completely randomized split plot in time, with six replicates for each experiment considering a variety. The evaluations will be made at harvest and postharvest fruit. At harvest, will be determined the number of functional leaves, pseudostem diameter, plant height, the weight of the bunch, the stalk, number of hands and determined hand of 1, 4 and last hand, the weight, fruit number, diameter and the fruit length. A hand 4 will be stored at 25 graus celsius until complete fruit maturation, at which time will be determined the weight loss, peel color, firmness, soluble solids, pH and titratable acidity. (AU)
