Abstract

To think about modern art, its ruptures and continuities in classical and romantic tradition, it is essential to understand the Ugly and his freedom from the shackles imposed by the aesthetics of Beauty on aesthetic and historical dimension. Therefore, this study aims to engender a reading and analysis of the concept of Ugly in Aesthetic Theory of Theodor W. Adorno, trying to understand how this concept arises in his speech, which follows closely the poetic changes of modern art as well as the aesthetic revolution undertaken by the Historical Vanguards that calls into question the art as an institution. Our methodology is guided by the Adorno's Negative Dialectic, which seeks to rupture the concept by the concept of immanent way, without the need to close it in a synthesis, keeping it negative. We highlighted specific stretches of the Adorno's work which will help us better define textually our analysis (AU)
