The Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) proposes an organizational integrated model of businesses that encompasses the idea of cooperation between the companies of the park and the sharing of services for costs reduction, supporting the development of Industrial Symbioses (IS) process. The ISI (Industrial Symbiosis Indicator) is an indicator that considers the dynamics of an EIP and allows the periodic monitoring of the park environmental performance, enabling the creation of a time series measurement that can be used as a trends evaluation and supports the decision making. On the other hand, the ISI has never been applied at a consolidated EIP, requiring to be checked in a more appropriate way. Moreover, this indicator does not consider the symbiotic relationship with the around environment or with other parks. Therefore, the main objective of this work is to evaluate and improve the ISI in order to enable its practical application. To reach this objective, this project will, first, carry out the simulation of the ISI behavior to identify areas for improvement and then make the necessary changes. In a next step, will be conducted a comparative simulation between the ISI and the second version of the indicator, the improved ISI. In this phase of the work the goal is to perform the measurement considering the real data of an EIP, conducting a case study. Finally, the necessary adjustments and the validation of the obtained results will be done. (AU)
