Abstract

The high demand for food to compose the formulated rations in the several animal categories from sheep industry grows the demand for those that allow good performance and economy on the production systems. Many lamb creation systems have been suggested. Notice the tendency to disclosure of technologies with excessive concentrates use, which would apply to sheep farmers with higher management and investment levels. Historically, what is registered is the pastures exploitation with the lowest technological level, underestimating these nutrient sources. However, just a few studies compare and pays up the grazing with confinement production systems, wherein this type of production may be widely disseminated in national territory. This work aims to present the doctorate project No. 2012/06008-0 approved by FAPESP, in which was evaluated the confined lambs performance and ruminal parameters, the diets used had crude glycerin, which is an agribusiness co-product and it has been studied by Prof. Dr. Jane Maria Bertocco Exequiel and her team. The results show the crude glycerin can be used on ruminants' diets instead of energetic ingredients, mainly corn. The internship purpose in New Zealand, together with Prof. Dr. Paul R. Kenyon, at Massey University, is to improve knowledge in the sheep industry production. It intends to compare and discuss, trying to understand the sheep production limitations. (AU)
