Abstract

With the constant evolution in standard of living of society, advances in the industries sector can mean increased pollutants in wastewater. Among the most important contaminants in this kind of effluent, we highlight some phenolic compounds that can be extremely toxic to animals and plants. The search for more efficient analytical procedures to monitor samples of environmental interest has stimulated the production of a wide variety of works in the area of method development. The biosensors are considered powerful analytical tools for this purpose because they use the biorecognition, which results in rapid and sensitive responses combining the selectivity of the biochemical reactions with operational simplicity. The use of nanotechnology associated to the construction of biosensors has been prominent in research in this area. The chemical and physical properties associated to nanoparticles make them extremely suitable for the architecture of new devices and even improved their response, especially (bio) sensors based on electrochemical measurements. Furthermore, the use of biopolymers such as chitosan in sensor is an alternative to make the biocompatible medium allowing the retention of activity of the biomolecule. Thus, this project will have as a basic premise the detection of species of environmental interest, such as phenolic compounds, including the future possibility of miniaturization of the system, using hybrid nanocomposites formed by the combination of nanoparticles and chitosan for immobilization of the biomolecule.
