Characterization of parenting social skills and academic performance of children in elementary school

Abstract

The literature has pointed to the importance of Social Skills (SS) for development, and these act as protective factors for learning disabilities and behavior problems. An important factor for the development of SS in childhood is parent actuation, whose SS Parental Education (SSPE) found to be important in the education of children. In this context, the present study aims to characterize the SSPE as well as the SS, behavior and academic performance of their children who attend elementary school. The study will be conducted in a municipal elementary school in São Paulo State. Participating in the project 50 students enrolled in the school, a parent or guardian (50) and teachers of each student. The instruments used to collect data will be Academic Performance Test, Interview Guide Social Skills Parental Education (RE-HSE-P) and Social Skills Rating System (SRSS-BR), questionnaire for teachers. Interviews with parents will be executed by the requesting scholarship; evaluation of the academic performance of children will be conducted by a team of researchers, which the grantee belongs and teachers respond to the instrument that assesses SS of children during their hours of collective teaching job in school. The quantitative results will be translated into spreadsheets and SPSS analyzes relevant statistics will be performed.
