Abstract

This research project aims to make a historical study of the construction and constant reforms undergone by the Church of Presidente Bernardes. Dated September 1930, the church was built through collective effort, with workforce location, what makes you believe that there is no official record of point due to varying availability of workers to continue the work. Curious things happened in the course of construction, as the excommunication of the then Bishop Emeritus of Botucatu by Pope Pius XII. Due to the proximity of the initial years of the Parish President Bernardes, it is assumed that the documentation for the construction of the Church can be saved in the Archdiocese of Botucatu. Another major concern raised are the displacements of consecutive building of the Municipal Library. Account that a resident in one of the changes, for lack of space, many books were stored in bags and deposited in the municipal gymnasium of the city. On a rainy day, the bags were wet, the books were spoiled and thrown away. These facts give thinking about a possible attempted concealment of local memory. (AU)
