Abstract

The eukaryotic genome is composed of DNA sequences present in the chromosomes that make up the normal karyotype (A chromosomes), and sequences called selfish, who do not obey the laws of Mendelian inheritance. Among these sequences are transposable elements, cytoplasmic factors and Bs chromosomes. With the advancement of chromosome studies, the idea that Bs are parasitic elements has been modified since recent data show that these chromosomes may have important biological roles. Studies with B chromosomes, in their majority, have been conducted in the cytogenetic level with their behavior during meiosis still poorly investigated. Recent advances in molecular biology have opened up the perspective of applying these new technologies in the investigation of classical problems such as B chromosomes. In this sense, analysis of the meiotic behavior of B chromosomes associated with the application of new technologies such immunocytogenetics can contribute to a better understanding of the biological role of this genomic element. This project aims to advance the understanding of the meiotic behavior of Bs, using analyzes of their distribution pattern in offspring derived from crosses of the model cichlid species Astatotilapia latifasciata associated with the use of classical cytogenetics tools, electronics microscopy and immunocytogenetics.
