Abstract

A lot has being researched on the work of Georges Hébert in France. However, very little has been done with specific regard to the impacts of his Natural Method in Brazil, where French gymnastic methods found an undisputed success. This research project concerns the use of Hébert's work in Brazil, taking into account Brazilian adapting of the serial exercises proposed by the author examined. Among our main sources there are a number of articles that should be highlighted from Revista "Educação Physica" (1932-1945), "Regulamento nº7" (1934) and books and articles written by Azevedo (1916), Penna (1921), Rangel Sobrinho (1930), Bonorino (1931), Kretzschmar (1932), Marinho (1943; 1953) and Miranda (1945). By doing an extensive analysis of the above-mentioned authors and considering the most recent studies from Delaplace (1995;1999; 2000; 2005), Soares (2001; 2003); Soares, Gleyse and Dalton (2013), my goal is to analyze and understand the body physical exercising in an open environment as well as its reading in Brazil during the first decades of the 20th century (AU)
