Abstract

This project aims at the synthesis of rare earth metal nanoparticles-A(1-x)M(x), where A = Cu, Ag, Al, Pt and M is a 3d transition metals (M = Fe, Co, Mn) and 4f (M = Gd, Nd, Er) varying the chemical composition and the average particle size (2-15 nm). Concerning the composition of two extremes will be studied: the case diluted with x <0.01 (magnetic species isolated within the particle), and concentrated with x ~ 0.50 (magnetic species that they see and interact within the particle). As to the medium size, the interest is to study the effect of the finite size on the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties and the correlation between them.
