Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder of multiple etiology, that leads to hyperglycemia, which may cause numerous dysfunctions and failures in some organs, as well as disorders in the oral cavity. Recent reports have shown decreased blood glucose of diabetic rats with the use of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in salivary glands. The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of LLLT on the insulin levels and glycemia of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The induction of diabetes will be performed with an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ), while the control group will receive only the vehicle. The rats will be divided into four subgroups (C0, D0, D20 and C20) in accordance with the LLLT dose received (0 or 20 J / cm ²). The diabetic state of the animals will be confirmed by blood glucose levels, 72 hours after induction of diabetes. The first blood sample for analysis of glucose and insulin will be collected in the 23rd day. The animals will be anesthetized, the blood will be collected by heart puncture (without surgical opening). On the 29th day, the animals will receive the LLLT in salivary glands (parotid and submandibular) or simulation, in accordance with their respective groups. The LLLT will be performed with the Photon Lase III (DMC ® Equipment LTDA) 660nm, 70mV, 20J/cm ². Twenty-four hours after the procedure, the animals are anesthetized and the second blood collection for analysis will be collected. The results will be evaluated by analysis of variance, and Tukey test, with the level of significance set at 5%.after 29 days, the animals will be anesthetized, blood flow will be collected, and then will be submitted to simulation or laser irradiation. The LBP will be held with the Photon Lase III (DMC ® Equipment LTDA). Twenty-four hours after the procedure the animals are anesthetized and blood will be collected. The results were analyzed by statistical test Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey contrast test, assuming a 5% significance.
