Abstract

Introduction: muscle tension dysphonia (DTM) is defined as a change of hyperfunctional phonation; may or may not be associated with benign lesions of the larynx, such nodules and mucosal thickening, more common in women. Techniques for the treatment of cervical and laryngeal relaxation are recommended, concurrently with the stimulation of mucosal wave of the vocal folds, aiming to regression of lesions. The Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is used to control or pain relief, improved vascularization of the applied area, muscle relaxation, may be considered an adjunctive therapeutic resource in the DTM. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of TENS in the treatment of vocal dysphonic women. Method: 34 teachers will participate, 18 to 45 years old, dysphonic, with bilateral vocal nodules or bilateral mucosal thickening and glottic closure, divided into two groups, randomly: Group 1 (Experimental) - 17 individuals who will receive 12 sessions of TENS (pulse: 200 mS, frequency: 10 Hz , motor threshold), with electrodes placed on the trapezius muscle - upper fibers and submandibular region, both bilaterally for 20 minutes, 30 minutes associated with traditional therapy voice, Group 2 (placebo) - 17 individuals who will undergo 12 sessions of TENS placebo (G1 same conditions, but without receiving the stimulus in the form of electrical current) for 20 minutes to 30 minutes associated with traditional voice therapy. Before and after speech therapy, will comprise reviews: Application of quality of life in voice protocol (V-RQOL), perceptive auditiva analysis and acoustic voice signals and application of vocal symptoms questionnaire, a questionnaire for investigation of pain symptoms, evaluation of the larynx by means of (naso) laryngoscopy. The data will be tabulated in Microsoft Excel and statistically analyzed comparing the two groups of speech therapy, as well as the pre and post therapy in both groups. (AU)
