Abstract

Oryzomyini is the most diverse tribe within the subfamily Sigmodontinae, and also the most widely distributed. The species have terrestrial, scansorial, arboreal and even semi-aquatic habits, like genus Holochilus. The genus Holochilus, along with genera Pseudoryzomys, Lundomys, Oryzomys, Sigmodontomys, Melanomys, Sooretamys, Eremoryzomys, Drymoreomys, Cerradomys, Aegialomys, Tanyuromys, Nesoryzomys, Amphinectomys and Nectomys, constitute the Oryzomyini D clade. This clade includes the most comprehensive generic diversity of the entire tribe, with lineages widespread geographically throughout the tropical South America, occupying distinct phytophysiognomies. However, the relationships between these different genera are still unclear, and despite the monophyly of the clade recovered in distinct analyses, the internal relationships are variable. Regarding Holochilus, it presents poorly defined species, with nomenclatural problems and phylogenetic relationships on species and genus level unknown. Within this context, we intend to include in this project a comprehensive sampling of the genus and of the clade D, aiming to define and delimitate the species of Holochilus and the phylogenetic position of the genus in Clade D, respectively. To obtain such results, we intend to employ a phylogenomic molecular approach to obtain a robust database that will be analyzed through Maximum Parsimony, Likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic methods.
