Abstract

The overall objective of Project LACAf-Cane-I is to discover and develop new knowledge related to sustainable (social, environmental and economic) production of sugarcane and other energy crops. Thus, this project has the overall objective to identify the socioeconomic impacts associated with sustainable bioenergy production of sugarcane in selected countries (Colombia, Guatemala, South Africa and Mozambique), in way to discuss possible scenarios of expansion activity of bioenergy production within the LACAf-Cane-I. To reach the main objective of the project, follows the specific objectives: i) evaluate the current state of bioenergy production from sugarcane in selected countries; ii) analyze the social, technological, institutional and organizational variables; iii) analyze the integration of upstream and downstream of producing sector of bioenergy compared to other sectors of the economy; iv) to verify the inclusion of selected countries in state-of-art of the knowledge for innovation in bioenergy; v) build consistent economic scenarios to formulate public policies.
