Abstract Widely used in the whole world with the function to keep healthful plantations and also the animal health, the pesticides provoke innumerable toxic effect in organisms of mammals; however, the predominant effect of this substances class is neurotoxicity. Fipronil is a pesticide of last generation that comes being widely used as much in agriculture how much in the control and prevention of ectoparasites that infest animals. Derived from phenyl pyrazole the fipronil is a chemical agent know for causing neurotoxicity, having the antagonism of gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) as their main mechanism of toxic action. Physiologically, it is known that GABA is involved in processes related to the formation and consolidation of memory. Picrotoxin, a toxic substance extracted of the plant Anamirta cocculus, popularly known as climber anamirta, acts as antagonist on the GABA receptor on similar way to the fipronil. The goal of this project is to study experimentally in rats the effects of exposure to the fipronil pesticide together with picrotoxin, evaluating the responses of animals in relation to the memory behavior. | |
