Abstract

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting women with a frequency of 0.1 to 4% in a general population, and of unknown cause. The diagnosis is established based on the clinical and histopathological findings, however direct immunofluorescence can be help the diagnosis specially for differentiating LPO of other autoimune diseases. Thus, this study aims to determine if direct immunofluorescênce can be used as an adjuvant test for the diagnosis of LPO. Patients referred to School of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto and School od Dentistry (Sao Paulo Campus)to evaluate oral lesions, during the period of 2014 to 2015, who fill the inclusion criteria will participate of this study. There will be four study groups: Group OLP - 20 patients presenting OLP; Group OLL - 20 patients presenting OLL; Positive control group - 20 patients presenting pemphigus vulgaris; and Negative control group - 20 patients presenting inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia. After the clinical examination, incisional biopsy and histopathological analysis will be made for defining the diagnosis. Additionally, direct immunofluorescence will be made in order to characterize the LPO lesions. This study will be submmited to approval by the Institutional Review Board of School of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto, and all patients should provide written informed consent in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
