This research project will enable to assess the implications of the variability of qc and fs values, based on tyhe variations of the moisture content profiles in the light of the information from the soil water retention curve. Thus, it is intended to study the importance of the retention curve and determining in situ soil water content in the interpretation of CPT (cone penetration test) data as well as on the estimative of the mechanical parameters of an unsaturated soil profile. The studied site is the experimental research area of UNESP Bauru, located behind the Civil Engineering laboratories, where several studies have already been carried out. The proposed project would enhance the student's knowledge on the subject and get him familiar with the tests, which he already studied at on the Soil Mechanics Course and at his first undergraduate research project. Therewith, it is intended to perform a detailed study on aspects of the behavior of unsaturated soils for a better estimative of soils parameters and its implication on geotechnical projects, particularly in foundations. We also expect to contribute to the knowledge advance on the subject, since little has been done so far about the interpretation of in situ tests in unsaturated soil profiles.
