This project aims specifically to develop an analysis of the parameters of the elasticity and strength of wood within the context of a more general research concerning glued laminated timber beams reinforced with natural or synthetic fibers. In general, the formulation presented for the analysis of glued laminated beams considers the case in which the axes of directional properties (wood orthotropic axes) are coincident with the geometric axis of the layers. Such coincidence does not occur often in laminated wood beams, which necessitates the need to check the influence of the direction of the wood fibers on the mechanical properties along the longitudinal axis of these beams. With knowledge of the parameters of the elasticity and strength of wood layers in orthotropic directions, whatever the directions of elasticity or strength are, these parameters can be evaluated in other directions as the geometrical ones of the beam, which is key to mechanically understand the behavior of a structural piece of wood constituted by layers. In this context, models associated and adapted with anisotropic materials can be used to seek the evaluation and determination of parameters of the elasticity and strength of wood in depth. As a result this study is intended to obtain a better understanding of the theoretical model calculation and analysis of laminated wood beams considering an extension of scientific knowledge to those beams reinforced with fibers.
