Abstract

Bemisia tabaci is the most importante specie of whitefly, which is vector of many phytovirus for many agriculturally important crops, such as tomato, causing production losses worldwide. Among the phytovirus transmitted by this species is Tomato chlorosis virus (Closteroviridae: Crinivirus) causal agent of yellow dwaf disorder of tomato, which is transmitted by B. tabaci in a semipersistente mode, as well as other two species of whitefly (Trialeurodes abutilonea and T. vaporariorum).The relations between B. tabaci and phytovirus transmitted by this species complex are very complex, once that understanding vary with virus species, vector (species and biotype), host plant and environmental conditions. In this manner, the use of Electrical Penetration Graph makes it possible to observe the feeding behavior of B. tabaci Q biotype and determine which specific feeding activity is responsible for ToCV transmission. Thus, knowledge about the transmission process is importante for understanding the epidemiology, as well as disease management. Thus, the use of Electrical Penetration Graph makes it possible to identify the feeding behavior of B. tabaci and determine which specific feeding activity is responsible ToCV transmission by B. tabaci.In this manner, despite the growing importance of ToCV on potato and tomato crops in Brazil and other countries, the project aims to determine the feeding behavior that is associated with the transmission of ToCV and perform analysis of the data obtained in Brazil regarding the indirect effect of ToCV feeding behavior of B biotype of B. tabaci in tomato plants.
