Abstract

With regard to other Orthoptera, the neotropical Grylloidea are poorly known. The main reason is the lack of scientific studies on this group, mainly taxonomic studies, since the current number of described species is still much underestimated. The genus Eidmanacris Chopard, 1956 comprises 13 described species, and is mostly distributed on Atlantic Forest and Cerrado areas, extending from South and Southeast Brazilian regions, as well as on Bolivia and Paraguay. The species inhabit burrows, hollow trees trunks, and cavities in rocks and caves. Although the number of described species is relatively higher than other neotropical phalangopsid genera, this genus still has several new species awaiting to be described. The present project aims to study the taxonomy of the genus Eidmanacris, with redescription of poorly known species, description of new species, and to provide an identification key to species, as well as to carry out a phylogenetic analysis to test the monophyly of the genus and to recover the phylogenetic relationships among the species of the genus Eidmanacris based on morphological characters.
