Abstract

The aim of this project is to recognize verbs in Brazilian Portuguese that can be classified as locative verbs. These verbs establish a location relationship among their elements and, in some cases, they have the locative as an intrinsic part of their meaning. We expect to establish a formal definition for locative and, based on this principle, identify and classify the verbs according to their syntactic-semantic features, having the Lexicon-Grammar theory as theoretical framework. The collected data will be formalized into binary tables with the cases and the syntactic-semantic descriptions. With this formalization, we intend to contribute to the language description studies and to the creation of resources for Natural Language Processing (NLP). We hope that the experience abroad, in the University of Algarve (Portugal), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jorge Baptista, enables the contact with new bibliographies, as well as the comparison between our data and the locative verbs cases in European Portuguese. Furthermore we expect to take part into study groups, talks and academic events where we can discuss and develop our work's theory and methodology. (AU)
