Abstract

The intense and indiscriminate use of pesticides has been causing serious damage to the environment. The objective of this project is the development of a methodology for determining and electrochemical removal of the pesticide bentazon in natural waters using electroanalytical techniques allied to the boron doped diamond electrode. The potential of the methodology will be evaluated in determining bentazon in natural waters, which will be collected in Billings barrage (Diadema - SP). Thus, it is expected to obtain a methodology for lower cost with less analysis time and minimal treatment of samples. The electrochemical oxidation of bentazon will be studied conducting exhaustive electrolysis to high potentials in order to formation of hydroxyl radicals, that are strong oxidizing agents and can thus get the full oxidation of bentazon (electrochemical combustion). The analysis of the products formed will be performed by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) and square wave voltammetry.
