Abstract

The mosquito Aedes aegypti is the main vector of dengue virus, according to the World Health Organization annually occur 100 million cases of dengue around the world and about 2.5 billion people are exposed to the risk of infection. In the year 2013 the city of Sao Paulo recorded 3,671 cases, with a high abundance of mosquitos Ae. aegypti. The knowledge of population dynamics of the vector is crucial to the development of more effective control strategies, as well as the anticipation of epidemiological patterns. In view of the lack of works aimed at understanding the population dynamics of this vector in the city of São Paulo, the present study aims the use of microsatellite markers and wing morphometry, as methodological approach for characterization of population structure of specimens collected in six separate locations in the city of São Paulo, five municipal parks (Anhanguera, Eucalyptus, Independence, Piqueri and Previdência) and City University (Campus Armando Salles de Oliveira/USP).
