Abstract

This project proposes an investigation on the Amerindian verbal arts, taking as a research object and focus of reflection and analysis the chants and oral performances of the Krahôs'singers, Timbira people (Gê) that inhabits the north of the state of Tocantins. We will approach the Krahô's repertoire of songs in order to examine: 1) Which characteristics and problems found in Kraho's sociocosmology guide their ritual practice and the creation of figures and poetics arrangements found in their chants? 2) How do the distinct modalities of Kraho's verbal arts articulate between themselves? 3) Which conception of creation and authorship is implicit in each one of them? Our aim in this research is to contribute to the understanding of Timbira ritual practices, in particular, and to the ethnology of the Gê people, in general, as well as to the reflection on the theoretical and poetics criteria necessary for the study and translation of the Amerindian verbal arts.
