Evaluation of the resin-dentin bond using different approaches in dentin conditioning

Abstract

The aims of this study will be to compare the effects of experimental conditioning agents (2.6% aluminum nitrate + 1.5% oxalic acid; 6.8% ferric oxalate and 1.4% HNO3) to the traditional technique to etch dentin (phosphoric acid) on resin-dentin bonding. For this evaluation, it will be used the microtensile bond strength test, failure pattern analysis in SEM, dentin microflexural test, morphology analysis of resin dentin area and collagen fibrils using confocal microscopy. For this confocal microscopy analysis, different dyes will be used to visualize the main structures of samples. For microtensile and morphological evaluations of dentin-resin bonding, two bonding agents containing different organic solvents will be tested in 10 experimental groups. For failure mode analysis, the tested samples will be coated with gold and classified according to the structures involved in the samples fractured areas. For collagen fibrils and flexural strength analysis, only the four conditioning techniques will be evaluated. For bond and flexural strengths, the parametric analysis will be used to evaluate the data (Anova and Tukey test), while for microscopy evaluations the descriptions of sample structures and their comparisons among groups will be done.
