Abstract

This research project is aimed at studying the microbial diversity of Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR), employed in the processing of stillage of sugar cane for the production of methane, subjected to different organic loads associated with recirculation rates. Will be used a reactor chambered composed of 4 chambers with a capacity of 5 L each, totaling a volume of 20 L. will initially be performed physico-chemical characterization of vinasse in natura to be used at work. Subsequently, the reactor RAC will be operated without recirculation of effluent and after, with a rate of 200 %, which will form the stages I and II of the study, respectively. Also will be studied loads volumetric organic (VOC) of 2.5; 3.5 and 5.0 Kg COD/m3.d associated with recirculation rates in each step (phase I, II and III). After obtaining each organic load stipulated (stages I, II and III), tests shall be carried out for the determination of physico-chemical parameters, quantification of biogas, specific methanogenic activity (AME), microscopic analysis and molecular biology (PCR and DGGE), for the monitoring of biomass. Will be held also at the end of the work (step III), a preliminary assessment of costs involved in the implementation of procedures studied for the step that present better results in terms of production of methane. Expected to achieve results regarding the influence of hydraulic rates and organic load on the dynamics of microbial population involved in anaerobic digestion of stillage through reactor RAC, to the understanding of the possible correlations that may exist between the operating parameters and the performance of the reactor for the production of methane.
