Abstract

This research aims to reflect on the discussions about "revenge porn": improper disclosure of intimate and/or erotic content. I propose to follow how the category has been defined in different contexts in which it is deployed; scrutinizing the symbolic disputes at stake in its construction and in attempts to turn "revenge porn" into a new facet of violence against women, as well as a criminal classification covered by the Maria da Penha Law. It is in this sense, I intend to understand the debates about "revenge porn" as articulators of "sexuality limits" (Gregori, 2008) that involve expansion and restriction of sexual normativities, the defining of boundaries between abusive and desired, and the articulation of conventions regarding gender and sexual norms .
