Abstract

With this internship abroad at Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza, Facoltà di Architettura Dipartamento di Storia, Disegno e Restauro dell`Architettura (DSDRA) under the supervision of the Prof. Ph.D. Simona M. C. Salvo we intend to open an additional perspective to our research enriching and nourishing the following topics: 1 How ruins have been treated as cultural heritage and how their materiality (status quo) have been conserved (or not) considering some prescriptions of the main theories of preservation; 2 How ruins have been considered as memorial references to establish a National policy of safeguarding culture heritage; 3 Are there different approaches towards the distinct groups of ruins: ancient; neglected and traumatic? These points will be verified mainly in the Italian scenario (where this internship will take place), although it will be possible to extend to other European countries through some studies cases that can be pertinent to this analysis. In order to fulfill these objectives we will develop Bibliographical, Documental and Iconographic researches (which includes interviews and field visits). Such material will allow very important reflections that will be applied to the development and completion of the general aim of our Ph. D thesis which is: verify how ruins are understood as cultural goods and how they have been treated inside the Brazilian practices and policies of cultural heritage protection through some selected studies cases.
