Abstract

The worldwide demographic transition reveals an increase in the number of elderly people even in developing countries. The increase in life expectancy raises the probability of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) involvement, which start to appear at top positions as leading causes of death in the world. The Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), often associated with hypertension and diabetes mellitus affect a great number of aged people, causing relevant decrease in their quality of life (QL) resulting in limitations to their daily routine activities. Scientific literature rarely focus quality of life of the aged affected with CKD. This Project is part of a major research project already approved by an Ethic and Research Committee in Health and aims at identifying and describing the QL of elderly with DRC under conservative treatment, followed at outpatient care unit in a public hospital. In order to achieve the aims, the following tools will be used: 1) Characterization, 2) WHOQOL-BREF Scale, 3) WHOQOL-OLD Scale e 4) mini mental state examination. The statistical analysis of the data will be descriptive and bivariate, according to the objectives of the study. This way we intend to demonstrate which dimensions of the elderly QL are most affected. The information will be useful for the care plan, focusing the real needs of the patients in order to promote a better quality assistance.
