Abstract

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) presented as the main entry receptor the CD4 molecule. The HIV is carry by platelets in blood circulation although they are not express CD4. Then, other molecules could be involved in HIV-platelets interaction, such as adhesion molecules. This kind of proteins have already been associated with the entry of the other virus in yours target cells. The platelet membrane express integrins, proteins with polymorphic antigenic determinants named Human Platelet Antigens (HPA) and, your polymorphism is already associated with presence of the other virus such as Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Dengue Virus. The goal of this study will be to evaluate, for the first time, a possible association between HPA -1, -3 and -5 polymorphism in 100 HIV infected patients and, to correlate these polymorphism with clinical and laboratorial parameters of the infection progression. Total blood genomic DNA will be used to genotyping of the HPA -1 and -3 by PCR-SSP and, HPA -5 by PCR-RFLP. Plasma Viral RNA will be used to determination of the HIV viral load by q-PCR. Clinical and laboratorial parameters of the infection progression will be obtained from patients' medical registers. The chi-square test will be used to investigate associations between the HPA polymorphism and (a) the HIV presence, (b) HIV Viral Load, (c) CD4 count and, (d) aids presence.
