Abstract

This project of scientific initiation inserts itself in the context of a research group organized around the project "O avesso da arquitetura moderna: domesticidade e formas de morar na habitação privada brasileira 1930-1960". Such search proposes the investigation of the spread of modern architecture among the ordinary public, manifested by the recurrence of this architecture in projects for particular orders (mainly in residential projects), configuring it not as the exception, but as the mark of metropolization in Brazilian cities of that period. For the acknowledgement of the means by which this dissemination process was given, this research will avail itself of statements of modern architecture's clients and also press materials such as photonovels, general interest magazines and housewives manuals, evaluating their role in the spread of a new way of thinking and creating spaces. This particular front will be dedicated to the study of the treatment given to the house theme in general interest magazines, using for such aim, examples of the Brazilian illustrated magazine "O Cruzeiro", in a historic period convenient to the research's subject.
