Abstract

The object of this proposal is the buildings on Guanabara Station (station, warehouses and maintenance, railway village and sports area). It was built in 1893 by Magiana Company. The goal is to reflect on conservation practices and uses of historic areas by social agents. Specifically, we will identify the status and uses of these buildings (ownership, use, legal protection, conservation status and intervention). We will also identify the preservation policies at the municipal and state levels, about these assets (legislation, cultural preservation agencies, legal protection about the complex, urban legislation and master plan). We will verified if the design reuse and preservation was included other buildings in the railway area studied. In addition, we will study about the heritage recommendations and contemporary practices in relation to historic areas (uses, intervention projects and institutions in charge), particularly, the railway heritage in Brazil and major cases at the international level. Therefore, the methodology includes: to check historical bibliographic and documents (as Mogiana Company Reports); others documents about the buildings at municipal archives, the Bureau of Preservation, Library and City Hall. In addition, some interviews will be conducted with these managers for each property studied. At last, we will check the conservation through an industrial building heritage inventory sheet (prepared by the Railway Heritage Project). (AU)
