Abstract

In search of breaking up the dichotomy between science research and artistic research, this project presents two concomitant and convergent investigations: a theoretic research about the fiction in critic discourses and a practical experiment about the potential criticism existent in fiction discourses. From the verification that the presence of narrative and fiction elements in analysis of recent contemporary theater experiences is a constant, we developed the concept of "critic-rhapsode", that opens space for a series of questions about the fluidity of the limits between critic and artistic creation. By means of refining this concept and of an analysis of its possible outspread, we intend to research in which extent the critic discourse can get an autonomy regarding its object. This theoretic investigation will have as practical complement the creation of a series of narratives and critic fiction commentaries about play writers and theater directors that don't actually exist, they exist only virtually. We than arrive to a second concept that we intend to develop and improve during this work: "virtual theater", that intends to widen the comprehension of theatricality beyond its actual and ephemeral manifestation, expanding it to before its scenic realization, as creative project and process, and to afterwards, under the form of various discursive elements (commentaries, critics, accounts) or iconographic elements (photographs, scenery, costumes) that amplify, radiate, spread, disfigure and transform it. Finally, the convergence between these two investigations opens the possibility of a new interpretation of the "critic space" as "scenic space", rendering problematic the conventional relation between the scholar of scenic arts and its object.
